More Common Repair Methods For SBR Linear Rod Rail

SBR support rail (belongs to the sliding friction linear guide, commonly used in light load, low-precision equipment, such as small conveyor belts, simple lifting platforms, etc.) maintenance needs to be aimed at the "sliding friction easy to wear and tear, poor sealing and easy to enter the dirt" characteristics, focusing on solving the problem of jamming, rattling, gap is too large, precision degradation and so on. Common maintenance methods are as follows:

First, the basic inspection: determine the type of failure

repair before the need for "observation + test" to locate the problem, to avoid blind disassembly:

Appearance check: to see whether the track surface scratches, rust, foreign objects (such as dust, iron filings); slider and the track with the loose (shaking amount of > 0.5mm is abnormal).

Running test: manually push the slider, feel whether there is a "stagnation point" (a sudden increase in local resistance), abnormal noise (friction, metal impact sound); measure the actual stroke and the theoretical stroke of the deviation (such as positioning error > 1mm that is, need to be adjusted).

Second, the maintenance of common failures

1. jamming, noise: mostly due to pollution or poor lubrication

SBR track without sealing structure, easy to enter the dust, oil, resulting in increased frictional resistance of the sliding surface, is the most common failure.

Clean up the pollution:

Use hard bristle brush + alcohol to remove foreign matter (such as iron filings, plastic particles) on the surface of the track and inside the slider, and focus on cleaning up the slide grooves at both ends of the slider (easy to accumulate dirt).

If the pollutants have solidified (such as dried oil), use fine sandpaper (800 mesh) to gently sand the surface of the track (one-way sanding, to avoid transverse scratches), and then use a cotton cloth dipped in kerosene to wipe clean.

Re-lubrication:

After cleaning, apply lithium grease (NLGI grade 2, temperature -20~120℃) on the sliding surface (upper and lower contact surfaces) and the inner wall of the slider, the dosage is suitable to cover the surface with 1-2mm thickness (to avoid too much overflow and pollution of the environment).

Note: Prohibit the use of motor oil (easy to absorb dust) or solid lubricants (such as graphite, easy to wear the sliding surface).

2. Excessive clearance, inaccurate positioning: loose fit due to wear

SBR track slider and track are "clearance fit", long term use of the sliding surface wear (especially high frequency reciprocation area), will lead to increased fit clearance (normal clearance should be ≤ 0.1mm, wear can be up to 0.5mm or more).

Adjust the clearance:

If the slider is "split" (composed of the slider body + wear-resistant piece), you can replace the worn wear-resistant piece (the material is mostly cast iron or engineering plastics, and the thickness is 0.1-0.2mm thicker than that of the original piece), and compensate for the clearance by increasing the thickness.

If the slider is "integral", thin copper sheet (thickness 0.05-0.1mm) can be padded between the rail and the mounting base, and the lateral clearance can be reduced by fine-tuning the position of the rail (applicable to the case where the clearance is ≤0.3mm).

Repair the track surface:

If the track is partially worn (e.g. 0.1-0.3mm deep scratches), use metal filler (e.g. epoxy resin + steel grit) to fill the scratches, and then use 1000 grit sandpaper to sand the surface flush with the track surface after curing (only applicable to low-precision scenarios, high-precision equipment needs to replace the track).

3. Rust: due to humidity or lack of maintenance

SBR tracks are mostly made of ordinary carbon steel (not hardened or low hardness treatment), easy to rust due to water vapor, condensation, resulting in a sharp increase in sliding resistance.

Mild corrosion (surface blackened, no pits):

Use fine sandpaper to sand along the length of the track (avoid new scratches caused by horizontal sanding), remove the rust layer, and then apply antirust oil to protect the surface.

Heavy corrosion (pitting, flaking):

If the depth of corrosion > 0.5mm, it will lead to uneven sliding surface, and need to directly replace the track (the accuracy can not be restored after repair, and it is easy to jam again).

4. Loose installation: Due to loose bolts or deformation of the base

SBR track is fixed on the base by bolts, long-term vibration (such as high frequency vibration during the operation of the equipment) will lead to loose bolts or deformation of the base (such as stress release of welded parts), which will lead to deviation of the parallelism of the track.

Refixing and leveling:

Loosen the track fixing bolts and use a level meter (accuracy 0.02mm/m) to detect the level of the track (longitudinal deviation ≤ 0.1mm/m, transverse deviation ≤ 0.2mm/m).

If the base is not level, adjusting gasket (copper or stainless steel sheet, thickness 0.1-1mm) can be padded between the track and the base, and the bolts can be tightened gradually after leveling (in diagonal order to avoid unilateral deformation by force).

Reinforcement of the base: If the base (such as steel plate, angle steel) due to long-term force bending, you need to first straighten the base (flame heating and straightening or replacement), and then install the rail.

5. slider excessive wear: need to replace the slider or accessories

SBR slider sliding surface (usually cast iron or copper alloy) wear will appear "step-like depression", resulting in reduced contact area with the track, bearing capacity decreased.

If the depth of wear of the slider <0.3mm, it can be temporarily repaired by scraping and researching the surface of the slider (using a scraper to scrape the high points to ensure that the fit with the track ≥ 80%);

If the depth of wear > 0.3mm or the slider is cracked, it is necessary to directly replace the same type of slider (Note: the new slider needs to be test fitted with the track and manually pushed without stuttering before it can be installed).

Third, preventive maintenance: to extend the service life of

SBR track repair needs to be combined with routine maintenance to reduce the recurrence of failure:

Regular cleaning: weekly compressed air blowing off the track surface dust, monthly cotton cloth dipped in kerosene to wipe the sliding surface (to remove the oil mixture).

Regular lubrication: every 50 hours of operation, the sliding surface of the track coated with lithium-based grease (avoid the use of liquid lubricants, easy to lose and poor dust resistance).

Environmental protection: in dusty scenes (such as woodworking packaging machine), can be added simple dust cover (such as plastic baffle) to reduce the entry of foreign objects.

Summarize

SBR track maintenance is centered on "repairing sliding fit, removing contamination, and restoring basic accuracy", which is suitable for temporary maintenance of light-loaded and low-frequency equipment. If the failure is repeated (such as excessive gap in half a year) or the equipment precision requirements (such as positioning error ≤ 0.5mm), it is recommended to directly replace the rolling guide (such as HGR series), to fundamentally reduce the maintenance cost.
