SBR precision linear rails cleaning methods and applicable scenarios in detail
I. SBR support rail structure and pollution characteristics
SBR precision linear rails (usually refers to cylindrical linear guide, such as the SBR series) belong to the basic linear motion components, its structure is based on a cylindrical guide with the slider (with ball or bushing), mainly. Common pollution includes:
Metal shavings, cutting fluid residues, dust particles, etc.;
lubricant or cutting oil curing the formation of grease;
chemical composition in the coolant, rust generated by the humid environment.

Classification and operation points of applicable cleaning methods
( 1) daily light cleaning: dry wipe and blowing method
applicable scenarios: daily maintenance, low pollution (such as dust, floating debris) of the working conditions.
Operation steps:
Tool selection: clean dustless cloth (without losing fiber), compressed air gun (pressure ≤ 0.5MPa).
Operation Points:
Use dust-free cloth to gently wipe the surface along the axial direction of the guide rail to avoid radial friction damage to the raceway;
Compressed air gun is 10-15cm away from the guide rail to blow away the particles in the gap along the direction of movement to prevent the accumulation of impurities in the interior of the slider.
Note: Prohibit the use of ordinary towels (easy residual fiber), compressed air needs to be dry (to avoid water vapor condensation).
( 2) moderate oil cleaning: solvent wiping method
applicable scenarios: guide rail surface attached to lubricants, cutting oil or light grease.
Operation steps:
solvent selection:
non-corrosive solvents: industrial alcohol (ethanol), kerosene (for metal parts), special rail cleaner (such as WD-40 precision electrical cleaner);
prohibited solvents: acetone, toluene and other highly corrosive solvents (will damage the surface coating of the rail).
Operation Points:
Spray the solvent on the dust-free cloth, wipe along the rail axial direction repeatedly until the oil is dissolved;
For the oil inside the slider, you can slowly push the slider back and forth, while the solvent with the dust-free cloth to clean the contact surface of the raceway.
Case reference: an automated production line of the SBR20 guide rail, due to excessive accumulation of lubricant caused by the movement of the jam, the use of kerosene wiping, with compressed air blowing, jamming phenomenon disappeared.
( 3) heavy pollution cleaning: disassembly immersion and mechanical assistance method
applicable scenarios: the guide rail surface has solidified grease, metal debris buildup, or slider movement is obviously blocked.
Operation steps:
Disassembly preparation:
Power off and fix the equipment, disassemble the slider and guide rail (according to the reverse order of installation, record the installation position to avoid misalignment);
Prepare special containers (such as stainless steel pots), pour neutral detergent (pH value of 7-8) or special cleaning agent for the guide rail.
Soak and clean:
soak the rail and slider for 15-30 minutes (adjusted according to the degree of contamination), soften the stubborn stains;
brush the surface of the guide rail and slider raceway with soft bristles (nylon), avoid using steel wire brushes (to prevent scratches on the metal);
for the deep holes or grooves in the impurities, can be used to clean up with a fine swab with solvents.
Drying and assembly:
Use dust-free cloth to wipe the dry parts, or blow dry with low-temperature compressed air (≤ 40 ℃);
Before assembly, apply a thin layer of lubricant (such as lithium grease) on the surface of the guide rail, and install the slider in the original position and debugging operation.
Note: It is prohibited to knock the guide rail during disassembly, and it needs to be thoroughly dried after soaking to prevent rusting.
( 4 ) special scene cleaning: anti-rust and anti-corrosion treatment
applicable scenes: wet environment, after contact with corrosive media (such as coolant, acid and alkali gases).
Operation steps:
Emergency cleaning: immediately rinse the surface of the guideway with water (to remove corrosive substances), and then wipe dry with a dust-free cloth;
Rust prevention treatment: apply anti-rust oil (such as CRC rust inhibitor), focusing on covering the threaded holes, mounting surfaces and other parts susceptible to rust;
Protective upgrades: can be added to the guideway shield (such as dust folding cloth), to reduce the intrusion of pollutants.

Fourth, cleaning error operation and risk avoidance
Taboo 1: use sandpaper to polish the guide rail surface (will damage the hardened layer, resulting in decreased accuracy);
Taboo 2: cleaning without timely lubrication (metal oxidation is easy to oxidize in direct contact with the air);
avoidance program: after cleaning and lubricating oil according to the requirements of the manual (commonly used in SBR rail ISO VG 32-68 lubricants), and empty running 2-3 stroke to ensure lubrication uniformity.
